This project was conceived long ago, but only recently concretized. We are a tiny organization funded only by private financial contributions and generous donations. Our mission and goal is to provide a situation where writers and artists can spend from one week to one year surrounded by simple beauty, the abundance of nature, and the company of others in the process of creating. Our hope is that the tranquility offered by Flores Island will inspire and cultivate in our residents a clarity of purpose and renewed passion for their soul's work. Our Residency consists of one house in the center of the village of Santa Cruz on the Island of Flores in the Azores archipelago.There are also satellite peasant houses where our residents may go for solitude and more studio space. One of these locations is an oceanfront cottage in a remote shore, without even electricity. It is our goal to continue the renovation process of an additional 3 houses, this with the idea that they will serve as additional space for more residencies and unique studio space. The love of ART, passion for books, reading, writing, and this Residency initiative were inspired by Isabella Dowling. Isabella Dowling is an island resident with a passionate and infectious artistic spirit, and was the childhood mentor of the creator of Footpaths to Creativity Artist and Writer Residency Program. This initiative is partially funded from the proceeds of Azores Adventures & Azores Walks. |
